Week 31

We had an amazing, surprising and eventful week!

In Science we started building our complex machine vehicles. The steps we had to go through are: build, reflect, test and tweak. Today we are having our Test #1 on the race track.

In Math we played the Graph Grid Game to practice creating arrays for multiplication. We learned the Distributive Property strategy. We watched a video about the steps to use this strategy. First, you decompose the bigger number into its place value and put brackets around. The smaller number goes on the left hand side of the bracket. Then smaller number gets distributed and is multiplied by the bigger numbers. After finding all of the products you add them altogether to get our total for the original number sentence/equation.

We read Chapter 4, 5 and 6 in Ticket to Curlew the rest of the family, Mamma, Jose, and Matt, came to Curlew, Alberta from Jericho, Iowa. Sam and Pa finished building the house and it smaller than their house in Jericho. It had 2 less rooms and no porch. The lumber was very costly because Curlew is a new town and most of the materials need to be transported by train. Curlew is a growing town - they recently got 2 new stores, a livery stable and hardware store.

For our Waste Management Data we collected compost, garbage and recycling from our assigned classes. We wanted to see if they improve their waste management practices. We noticed a little bit of change such as some classes are using their recycling and composting a bit better.
Reminders:
  • Continue collecting materials for building our complex machine cars.
  • Please return your library books on Tuesday.
  • Frisbee Rob's Challenge begins next Monday, April 29th until Friday, May 3rd. Students are challenged to do 1, 2 or all 3 of the challenges below. Instead students can participate in activities, such as going outside and being active (play hockey, playing catch, play frisbee, go on a bike ride, go the park), reading, doing homework, creating a time limit on technology, swimming, play a board game, or arts and crafts.
    • No screens in bedroom
    • No screens at dinner
    • No screens 1 hour before bed
  • Continue practicing your basic math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
