Word Work Practice

Students work on Word Work during our Daily 5 work periods which is everyday. See the spelling patterns below.

Here are the steps students take to practice:



1. Read the 'rule'. 
2. Create a chart with the spelling patterns.
3. Place the words from the 'words list' under the correct spelling pattern. Remember to read the words out loud. They might have the spelling pattern, but not the sound.
4. Add words you know or words from books that follow the spelling pattern and sound.
5. Create five dictation sentences. Each sentence must have at least 2-3 words from your chart. Try to use words with different spelling patterns. 
6. Practice your dictation sentences with a partner. Highlight the word and underline the words with the spelling pattern and sound.
